Save huge amounts of money on heating when you get properly insulated!

After all if someone said you could save £££ on your heating bills and be as warm then you'd be interested!

Insulation can be in the following forms:

• loft insulation
• cavity wall insulation
• double glazing
• insulation round doors to prevent drafts

If you're not sure how much of a difference it could make ask your neighbours if they've had it done. The difference it makes is quite amazing. A well insulated home will cost less to heat to the same temperature!

If your home has cavity walls that aren't insulated then they are rapidly leaking heat into the atmosphere, up to 33% of the heat produced in your home is lost this way. This means you would save a lot of money if you got your walls insulated.

The good news is that cavity wall insulation is a quick, clean and relatively inexpensive to address.

Cavity wall insulation is injected into the cavity between the inner and outer leaves of brickwork that make up the external wall of your property. An installer will do this from the outside of your property. There are a variety of different insulating materials, but they all work in the same way: by combining with the still captive air, the insulation acts as a barrier to heat loss.

How can I find a registered installer?
Contact your local Energy Efficiency Advice Centre on 0800 512 012 who will be able to give you information about installers and grant schemes in your area. Alternatively, contact CIGA or National Insulation Association (NIA).

It is well worth ringing up and finding out what it could cost you. If you have an energy centre nearby then they probably can help you out.

This could cost you as little as a couple of hundred pounds to get both loft insulated and cavity walls done. This cost could be recouped within a couple of years easily just by the savings on your heating bills.

Junk in the loft is not insulation!

A lot of people are put off getting loft insulation because of junk stored in their attic. On average we have about £400 worth of junk in our attics - but that junk could be costing us over £100 a year in lost heat!

If we took the trouble to sort the junk out and got the loft properly insulated then we'd not be losing money! You could also flog your junk on a car boot sale and that could more than pay for the cost of insulation.
